Alienated from NASA over the leaked designs of the Lorelei— a submersible habitat intended to melt through the icecap on Jupiter’s moon, Europa, and deploy into the high-pressure aquatic environment beneath— Doctor Harrison Beck finds his dreams of venturing into the unknown alien world are dashed. That is, until he is contacted by Maitland Technologies with a proposition, and a promise to ride the expected success back to the front seat en route to Europa. Maitland has come into possession of Beck’s design schematics and built the Lorelei, and now wants to test it in Lake Vostok, two and a half miles beneath the ice in Antarctica. Under the veil of the Antarctic winter, the Beck and his appointed team settle into he Lorelei and descend into the isolated waters of our planet’s most inhospitable environment. Tension quickly leads to sabotage, paranoia, and death as the Lorelei’s crew realize they have trapped themselves in a tomb where they must face the abyss, and their own reflections staring back from the pitch-black waters of the mysterious lake.
